OCIO Service Catalog

Web Single Sign On

Overview

OCIO offers single sign-on services via SAML. SAML is an open industry standard for authentication to web-based applications, and can supply information to allow web applications to personalize and to make authorization decisions. It is also designed to simplify the sign-on process among web applications for users.

What's Included

OSU departments and colleges can register any number of services/applications with the web login service and apply to obtain a desired set of attributes about users that login to their applications using the service.

Applications become securely accessible to holders of any OSU enterprise credential (Kerberos, IDM-Auth LDAP, SecurID). For more information, visit: https://webauth.service.ohio-state.edu/~shibboleth

Optional Features

  • Limited consulting is available to assist with planning and deployment.
  •

  • Applications that want to allow for federated access by users from other universities or organizations can register as InCommon Federation Service Providers. The registration process with InCommon is managed by the Web Login Service support staff on behalf of the university.

Pricing

There is currently no charge for use of this service.

Eligibility

Special Considerations

  • Customers are required to deploy a SAML-compatible Service Provider implementation along with their web/application environment to integrate with the Web Login Service. The free, open source Shibboleth software (http://shibboleth.internet2.edu/) is recommended for this purpose.
  • Access Frequently Asked Questions at: Shibboleth FAQs.
