Technology Users Groups
Overview
Technology users groups focus on a particular aspect of technology. The groups provide a great way to learn and network on campus. Several technology users groups are seeking participation from interested OSU faculty, staff and students. Information about each group is provided below.
What's Included
Application Developers Group
An e-mail discussion group for computer applications and systems developers throughout the university to share and discuss applications development issues. Most of the focus is on web development. For details, please e-mail George Abraham at abraham.46@osu.edu. The mailing list is appdev@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu.
Digital Media Collective
A university-wide group of faculty, staff, and students that: 1) connects people who create, manage, and study digital media; 2) shares best practices, goals, and experience in creating and using digital content; and 3) advocates for digital media initiatives that benefit OSU and its communities. DISTCONS Users Group (Distributed Consultants)
DISTCONS is a network of computer support staff distributed throughout the university and the OCIO personnel who work with them. For more information, contact Brian Keller at keller.4@osu.edu or 292-6801. The mailing list* is distcons@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu.
ELT (Exploring Learning Technologies) Community
The Exploring Learning Technologies Community is a grassroots group of staff and faculty focused on enhancing teaching and learning by increasing awareness of emerging technology being used at OSU. Meetings are held the 3rd Friday of every month from 10-11:30AM in 143 Physical Activities & Education Services (PAES). The mailing list* is: eltcommunity@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu.
MacForum (Macintosh)
A technology usergroup for Macintosh enthusiasts. Meets the third Thursday of every month from 3:30-5:30 pm in 120 Baker Systems. For details, visit macforum.osu.edu. The mailing list is macforum@lists.service.ohio-state.edu. Subscribe to this list using the MacForum List Info page.
OSU Code Jam
OSU Code Jam is a weekly one hour meeting of developers on campus. Meetings are unstructured and revolve around hacking on code and discussing development work. SECWOG (Security Working Group)
For staff who maintain network security. Meeting dates are announced through the mailing list, security-public@net.ohio-state.edu. NETWOG Technical
A working group for staff involved with network technical issues. NETWOG meetings are scheduled on the second Thursday of every odd month, from 3:30 - 5:30 pm, in 120 Baker Systems Engineering. PMSIG

Women in Technology
A grass-roots group made up of women who work in a variety of technology-related jobs throughout the university community. The mailing list is witnet@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu.
World Wide Web Interest Group
A group for people who create and maintain websites and pages. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. in 120 Baker Systems Engineering. For details, subscribe to the mailing list, webmasters@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu.
