Streaming Music (Campus Buildings)

 

Overview

The Office of the CIO (OCIO) offers Streaming Music Service for Ohio State's Columbus and regional campus buildings.

Our Streaming Music Service leverages one of the leading providers of professionally recorded music, Muzak®. The service features a commercial-free selection of 100 core music programs, covering a variety of music genres. This service, which utilizes your college or departmental unit's existing audio sound distribution systems, is certain to have a unique sound that fits the atmosphere of your campus location.

What's Included

The Streaming Music Service includes:

  • Site survey and design to determine the most cost effective path to extend music service to the customer's audio sound system and consultating for new and remodel design processes to enable the streaming music service for installation
  • 1 primary receiver (allows one music programto be streamed at a time)
  • Applicable licensing of the music to be played
  • Selection from 100 core music programs across different genres provided through Muzak®
  • Web-based management tool to self-manage music program selections, inject custom content or schedule music selections by time of day, day of week

Optional Features

  • Additional music receivers

Note: Additional music receivers are required if different music programming needs to be delivered to separate areas of your college or department. The areas must be located in the same building.

Pricing

One-Time Charges

  • $34.00 administrative order charge
  • Set-up and installation: Quoted pricing will be provided following the required site survey.
  • Technician rate for on-site support:  $60/hr. during published University Business Hours, $90/hr. outside published University Business Hours (including travel time). 
  • Any materials costs required to repair

Note: Based on the site survey, additional charges may be incurred for the installation of transport from the OCIO distribution point to the location of the primary receiver in the building.

Recurring Charges

  • Basic Service: $100.00 per month (includes all items listed in the "What's Included" section)
  • Additional Music Receivers:$17.50 per receiver per month

Eligibility

OSU departments, offices, and college units may request and use this service.

How To Order

This service requires a site survey of the campus building where the service will be provided. An existing audio sound distribution system must be in place and operational in the building where this service will be delivered.

Note:  Initial set-up, installation and materials acquisition required for delivery of this service will generally require a 3-4 weeks lead-time.

Billing

Monthly and one-time charges are billed at the end of the month in which they are incurred. OCIO's billing cycle begins the first day of each month and ends on the last day of the same month.

Our Commitments

Service Specific Parameters: Additional information specific to the delivery of the Streaming Music Service is below:

Service Hours and Availability: The Streaming Music Service as well as the web interface used by customers for managing music programming is available 24/7/365.  Any unavailability of the web interface, including for planned maintenance will be provided on the IT Systems Status page.  Note: The web management tool is provided by Muzak®, and is not subject to the standard Office of the CIO maintenance window.


Special Considerations

  • Prior to installation of this service, customer is responsible for providing an operational audio sound distribution system in the location where the service will be provided.
  • Customer is responsible for providing access to the building location by an OCIO Field Technician for the purpose of completing the site survey, installation and set up the service.
  • Customer is responsible for providing the names and contact information of designated administrators for this service.
  • Current customers can access the web management tool and on-line instructions at: http://www.muzak.com/muzak-resources/control/.  Customers at the Columbus Campus should choose the Encompass MV System Login, those at Regional Campuses (using a satellite to receive Muzak® should choose the Encompass LE System Login.  Access to this tool is restricted to administrators designated by their OSU department, office or college unit with an established account through the OCIO office.
