Summary
Training and career development ensures that Ohio State's technology infrastructure and community are supported by staff with up-to-date technical skills. In addition, training and development benefits staff in seeking professional credentials and certifications and students who are pursuing information technology degrees.
Establish an IT staff education, training and career development program.
The university needs to create an IT staff training and career development program that ensure that Ohio StateÕs technology infrastructure and community are supported by staff with up-to-date technical skills. The program must include training that leads to professional IT credentials and certifications and that is made available to students pursuing IT degrees. IT staff need to demonstrate competencies to include both training and annual resources to support instructors using technology in their teaching and research. Training and career development will help the university to develop a trusting and sharing environment that fosters mutual respect and understanding, team spirit, and better decision making on the part of both the central and distributed IT organization. In addition, IT staff will be better prepared and more efficient; students will be better educated and given more job training and opportunities; customers will be better served; department, unit and central systems will be better maintained and supported; the pool of qualified IT staff will be improved and retained; and planning for future staffing needs will be enabled.
