Summary
A Knowledge Bank is a managed digital repository for intellectual property that gives the campus community simple, seamless access to a wide range of diverse university digital information assets and resources. It enables faculty to share files across departments or colleges and universities to leverage research in teaching environments. It also gives the larger community appropriate access to the universityÕs digital resources.

Full Description

Develop and implement the Ohio State University Knowledge Bank. Establish standards for accessibility, transmission and delivery of digital assets such as large data sets including images with other faculty, students and funding agencies.

The campus community needs simple, seamless access to a broad range of diverse university digital information assets and resources; access that is compatible with firewalls and other security issues, that enables faculty to share files across departments, or colleges and universities to leverage research in teaching environments, or gives the broader community appropriate access to the universityÕs digital resources. A Knowledge Bank provides that seamless access and establishes standards for accessibility, transmission and delivery of digital assets such as large data sets, including images, to other faculty, students and funding agencies. A Knowledge Bank is a managed digital repository for intellectual property, with tools and engines to federate that repository with collaborating on- and off-campus digital libraries and collections and a web-based portal to identify, integrate, and deliver digital assets from all sources. A Knowledge BankÕs easy integrated access translates to more effective learning for students; more productive instruction and research for faculty; the ability for staff to provide optimal support and administration; and for the state of Ohio, promises more growth and economic development. Such generalizations encompass these specific benefits: improved access to scholarly communication; content integration to drive knowledge and development of instructional materials; enhanced instruction and research effectiveness; archiving and preservation of digital output; automatic preparation of Promotion and Tenure reports; reduced growth in cost and better synergies and economies of scale; leveraging of institutional knowledge capital (e.g., innovative re-use of research and learning materials); and fulfillment of Ohio StateÕs land-grant outreach mission.
