eLearning

What is eLearning?

eLearning is the term applied to teaching and learning enabled by technology. eLearning encompasses a continuum of educational technology Š from the supplemental use of technology in the classroom, through a mix of face-to-face and online instruction, to fully online course and learning environments.

What is Carmen?

Carmen is Ohio StateÕs online learning management system. In CarmenÕs virtual environment, instructors post lecture notes and announcements, pose discussion questions, and manage grades related to credit courses, and students take part in the coursesÕ online activities. To access Carmen courses, go to carmen.osu.edu and log in with your OSU Internet username. You will find Carmen courses listed under My Courses on the Carmen main page. (It may be necessary to click the [+] in front of the headings for quarter and/or department to reveal links to available courses.)

Does Ohio State offer distance courses?

Yes. If you like the convenience of online learning, learn more about OSU distance courses (including how to search for them in the RegistrarÕs Master Schedule) at telr.osu.edu/distance.

What is net.TUTOR?

University Libraries maintains the net.TUTOR site to help new users learn basic online search skills and advanced research techniques through online tutorials and links to credit courses and other relevant information. net.TUTOR can be particularly helpful when itÕs time to research topics and write papers. Find net.TUTOR at gateway.lib.ohio-state.edu/tutor.

What is the Digital Union?

The Digital Union is a technology-rich environment that encourages collaboration and hands-on access to new media technologies. Knowledgeable staff can help you learn to use multimedia to fulfill course assignments and conduct research. Get details at digitalunion.osu.edu or visit 370 Science and Engineering Library.

What is the Sullivant Learning Commons?

The Sullivant Learning Commons combines technology and library resources in one location. The facility offers individual and group computer workstations with more than 30 popular software programs, presentation practice space, laptop bars with wireless access, in-library use of laptops, and other services.
