Technology for the Classroom

As faculty increasingly rely on classroom technology, OIT provides support, services, and resources to meet the need. For more information on all these services, visit classroom.osu.edu.

Central File Storage

Instructors teaching in one of the technology classrooms can store class files, such as PowerPoint presentations, on a central server and access them from any classroom. To set up an account, go to classroom.osu.edu and click on ÒNew UsersÓ under ÒClassroom Storage Account,Ó send e-mail to classroomhelp@osu.edu, call 247-HELP, or visit the lower level of Central Classroom Building.

Student Computer Centers

The many Student Computer Centers across campus ensure that students have access to technologies for course work requiring current computer hardware, software, and Internet access. Centers are equipped with Windows and/or Macintosh computers and a variety of peripheral equipment. Software includes word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, e-mail, web browsers, and more. Computer Centers as Classrooms

For class sessions requiring that students work in a computer lab, reserve one of the OIT Student Computer Centers. To make a reservation, send e-mail to the Office of Scheduling at 850@exchange.ureg.ohio-state.edu or call 292-7894. Design of New Facilities

OIT Facility and Systems Design staff consult on, design, and manage new construction projects and renovations of technology-enhanced learning spaces for training and education. Go to oit.osu.edu/services/audiovideoserv/design.html, send e-mail to system_design@osu.edu or call 292-9689.

Digital Language Lab

Supported audio materials are available online for students enrolled in the foreign language program. For more information, go to languagelab.it.ohio-state.edu, send e-mail to streaming@osu.edu, or call 292-9689.

Distance Learning/Video Conferencing

OIT staff fully support interactive videoconference courses and events on the Columbus campus. OIT routinely videoconferences with regional campuses, most major universities, and other videoconference sites worldwide. Equipment Loan

OIT loans the following classroom equipment to faculty and instructors: TVs and VCRs on cart, DVD players, audio tape and CD players, portable speakers, slide projectors, digital cameras, camcorders, tripods, laptop computers, and projectors for computers. To reserve equipment or request delivery and setup in a classroom, go to classroom.osu.edu/equipment.php, send e-mail to avorder@osu.edu, call 292-3131, or visit the lower level of the Central Classroom Building.

Equipment Repair

OIT certified technicians design, install, and maintain campus instructional, computer, and audiovisual equipment. For computing assistance, go to oit.osu.edu/services/computingservices/repair.html, or send e-mail to computingservices@osu.edu.

iTunes U

Ohio State iTunes U provides easy access to a diverse range of Ohio State digital audio and video content through the iTunes Store, AppleÕs online music, video, and podcast service. Ohio State iTunes U is a collaboration between the Office of the CIO and University Relations. For more information, visit itunes.osu.edu.

Media Library

More than 6,000 titles on videocassette and DVD are available for faculty use in the classroom. For more information about, or to reserve titles, go to classroom.osu.edu/media.php, send e-mail to avorder@osu.edu, or call 292-3131.

Digital Media

Classroom Digital Media Distribution consults on and provides professional quality audio and video production support to help faculty integrate media into web pages and online courses. Additional services include streaming media, podcasts, and interactive video conference support.
