The OSU Moritz College of Law, University Libraries, and the Office of the Chief Information Officer are local sponsors of the national, live webcast, "The TEACH Act and Distance Learning: Doing the Digital." The webcast will be held on October 30, 3 to 4:30 pm, in the Saxbe Auditorium of the Moritz College of Law. There is no pre-registration or charge to attend. The Association of Research Libraries and EDUCAUSE are the national sponsors of this webcast, which will give viewers direct access to some of the prominent experts in the TEACH Act arena. The Technology, Education, and Copyright Harmonization (TEACH) Act was enacted in October 2002. This new law redefines the terms and conditions for the use of copyrighted materials in online learning environments, providing both new opportunities but also new responsibilities. Every nonprofit educational institution needs to be fully aware of the provisions of this important new law. Those who will find the webcast of particular interest include instructional designers and distance education providers; general counsel and administrators; teaching faculty; and librarians who want to stay current with copyright law developments, particularly those who work with teaching faculty to develop online course curriculum. Donna L. Ferullo, director, University Copyright Office at Purdue University, will begin the webcast session with an overview of the TEACH Act and some of its implications for educators, librarians, and administrators. Ms. Ferullo will then moderate a panel discussion with Peggy Hoon (Scholarly Communication Librarian, North Carolina State University) and Rodney Petersen (Policy Analyst and Security Task Force Coordinator, (EDUCAUSE) focusing on practical approaches for implementing the various provisions of the TEACH Act. The panel will also respond to viewers' questions. Additionally, after the webcast, the audience will be able to view a frequently-asked-questions (FAQ) list compiled from the webcast discussion. The Moritz College of Law is located at 55 W. 12th Avenue. |
