The Knowlton School of Architecture (KSA) released its new online Digital Library on September 22. The Library is accessible through the KSA web site: http://knowlton.osu.edu or directly through http://wmc.ohio-state.edu/ksa. The constantly growing database contains thousands of images that can be accessed in seconds using powerful search and browse tools. KSA faculty and students can access and download images and multimedia files for use in research, study or teaching. Broad areas of the collection are also available to the public.

The KSA Digital Library is part of a campus-wide effort to link digital resources at OSU, including collections at the History of Art Visual Resources Library and the Huntington Archive. The School of Architecture and the Web Media Collective have worked closely to make KSA's vision of a digital image library a reality and to help position OSU in the forefront of digital resource sharing.

The Digital Library includes:

  • Over 4,200 images with new images added daily
  • Works from prehistoric cave paintings through cutting-edge, computer-generated designs
  • Parks, gardens, drawings, sculpture, paintings, models, buildings, city plans, and more

Full access library users can:

  • Search and browse detailed descriptive information for each image, including: construction techniques, materials, geographic locations, and historic and modern periods
  • Make and download PowerPoint presentations and still images with image information
  • Zoom into images to examine details
  • Save search criteria for future use

The launching of the KSA Digital Library adds another valuable resource to support the school's excellent courses. "Students, faculty, and practitioners from around the world can access architecture, landscape architecture, and city and regional planning images, further reinforcing KSA's reputation as a center of design and planning," said Robert Livesey, director of KSA.
