On May 3, the Carmen infrastructure team reached a major milestone with launch of the Student Information Database (SID). SID transforms PeopleSoft data into an XML format that can be imported directly into Carmen. For Carmen, this marks the first time PeopleSoft data has been used to generate course shells and instructor and student enrollments. To date, this system has created over 34,000 course shells for summer and autumn quarters.

Although SID is transparent to the average user, additional benefits include:

• Greater flexibility and efficiency in merging and splitting course sections within Carmen.
• Improved data oversight and reporting features.
• Decreased batch times for nightly data imports.
