BuckeyePass Tokens Introduces Two-factor Authentication to Users
Posted: February 21, 2008
BuckeyePass, the brand for the Office of the CIO's two-factor authentication system, is a way of determining you are who you say you are. It combines two separate items - something you know and something you have - to validate your identity and grant access to a system or application. For example, you use two-factor authentication every time you use your ATM card (the card plus your PIN).
BuckeyePass tokens provide greater security than passwords alone and will be needed to access certain systems or applications. Systems with especially sensitive data, such as the new Student Information Systems (SIS), will be protected by these two layers of authentication. Users with access to BuckeyePass protected systems such as SIS or the CIO Office VPN access will be given instructions on how to request and activate a BuckeyePass token in the coming months.
