New Features Makes Anti-spam Service Easier to Use

Ohio State has enhanced the anti-spam solution on the central e-mail system (osu.edu), making it easier than ever for members of the university community to eliminate junk e-mail before it gets to their mailboxes. The enhancements include:

• A new, simplified interface enables users to adjust the level of spam filtering from the default setting of medium to either high or low filtering.


• All new users of anti-spam service see the simplified interface; those who activated the anti-spam defense prior to the change may opt for the simplified interface by resetting the Preferences in the anti-spam software. See the 8help Knowledge Base article for details.


• Anti-spam is automatically turned on for the following groups: undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and users of the Lifetime E-mail Forwarding Service (LEFS) offered by University Development and the Alumni Association.


• Activation of anti-spam for faculty and staff continues to be voluntary.

All users can access the service by logging on to antispam.osu.edu with their OSU Internet Username and password. More information and the reasons why it's important to use anti-spam are available in the 8help Knowledge Base article.

Note: Ohio State also runs a preliminary scan of e-mail on the central system to eradicate dangerous viruses, mail bombs, and some junk mail for osu.edu addresses. As with any filtering technology, there is a risk of losing wanted e-mail and a possibility that some spam will get through both filtering levels.
