
OSU to Participate in First-ever, Virtual National Internet2 Day

On March 18, Ohio State and more than 200 other Internet2 member-colleges and universities across the country will observe the first-ever, virtual National Internet2 Day, http://events.internet2.edu/2004/Internet2Day. At OSU, the Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) are local sponsors for Internet2 Day and will host a day-long series of virtual presentations at the new Digital Union, located at Third Floor Science and Engineering Library, 175 W.18 th Ave. Faculty and staff are invited, at their leisure, to view live webcasts featuring national speakers from a broad spectrum of disciplines, including science and research, teaching, performing arts, and collaboration technologies.
From noon to 1 p.m., the national speakers will be highlighted, and from 1 to 2:15 p.m., the following OSU staff/faculty will present to the local and national audiences: Bob Dixon, chief research engineer for the Office of the CIO and for OARnet; Steve Acker, director, Learning Technologies Research and Innovation; Cindy Gaillard, producer, WOSU-TV; Dan Boord, associate professor, Dept. of Theatre; Prasad Calyam, OSC. Their presentations will demonstrate how Internet2 applications are currently being used at OSU; projects currently underway; how to begin collaboration with other Internet2 member-institutions; how students and faculty are benefiting from Internet2.
