Message from the CIO

The Ohio State University and the Information Technology Strategic Plan

PlanIT, Ohio StateÕs Information Technology Strategic Plan, dates to 2002. Inspired by the universityÕs Academic Plan, it came to fruition over the next two years, cultivated by the Office of the Chief Information Officer and hundreds of university faculty, student, staff, and administrative stakeholders. In 2004, the CIO Office published the IT Strategic Plan on behalf of all those collaborators who envisioned a place of higher learning where strategic investments and goals were best aligned to enrich the technology environment.

This Annual Achievement Report highlights the accomplishments realized in 2007 in working toward the original initiatives, and also reviews the greater strides made since the planÕs inception in 2004. The reader will note that this document, for the most part, names no Òachievers,Ó per se, because these accomplishments are the results of the efforts of multiple units and numerous collaborators.

New Beginnings. During the past year the university welcomed new leaders and now receives a new set of recommendations for the technology plan. The Information Technology Strategic Plan Refresh for 2008, included as an insert in this report, addresses the imperative to continually navigate the changing currents of innovation to ensure that all members of the university community can access the high quality technology tools and infrastructure needed to reach their academic, research, and administrative goals.

We anticipate that the refreshed IT plan will play an important role in supporting the six strategic goals of President Gee as well. In todayÕs information age, a robust technology environment is a vital component in attaining world-class status and the university of the American dream.

Interim Chief Information Officer
