2007 Achievements

Information Literacy Initiative
Part 1   Build on the information technology skills assessment tool for students used by Undergraduate Studies and expand its use for the assessment of faculty and staff skills as well.
Part 2  Create a technology literacy development program to bring students, faculty and staff to a basic skill level. Use the data gathered by the assessment tool to streamline a training program to meet the needs of Ohio State students, faculty and staff. This program can be based on the LibraryÕs net.TUTOR course, with additional materials to both address the skills identified in the assessment tool and expand its applicability to faculty and staff. Additionally, build awareness of the availability of net.TUTOR within the campus community.

Since 2004

University Libraries: encouraged Ohio StateÕs use of a new ICT Literacy Assessment tool and promoted development of student ICT literacy skills through net.TUTOR; developed movies on catalog, database, and web search tools; developed and taught the credit course, "Career Research Online"; inaugurated the "Make the Leap" program to develop online skills in searching and evaluating resources; developed "Head Hunt" online library orientation game; and began the three-year renovation of the Thompson Main Library, which will incorporate new information technologies.

TELR: enabled access to University LibrariesÕ net.TUTOR materials within Carmen; provided technology literacy instruction for the 7th Annual Outreach and Engagement Conference hosted by Ohio State; developed an evaluation rubric for assessing the quality of new media assignments; contributed sessions to local, regional, and national conferences on integrating technology into teaching and learning; collaborated with Ohio Learning Network and the Board of Regents to test digital textbooks.

Digital Union: conducted quarterly technology and digital storytelling workshops and showcases; completed research projects on tablet PCs and Second Life; secured various learning grants; convened groups of interdisciplinary faculty members on technology use in teaching and research; joined the Arts and Sciences Curriculum CommitteeÕs Visual Literacy Panel; assisted faculty collaborations with the Byrd Polar Research Center, the Department of Biology, and the colleges of Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, and Education, among others; and published articles in several journals.

Office of Information Technology: strengthened 8help and campus collaborations to provide better support for students, faculty, and staff with disabilities and certified staff and upgraded classrooms to provide assistive technologies.

Since 2007
