2007 Achievements

Funding Initiative
Part 1  Create an IT funding strategy and mechanisms to address the issues of funding inequities, under-funded needs, and a lack of regular and sustainable funding for mission critical systems and services.
Part 2  Establish regular and sustainable funding to support the continuous maintenance and periodic upgrade of technology-enhanced pool classrooms. Direct attention to the needs of departmental classrooms as well.

Since 2004

Obtained a two-year tuition increase for technology from the state budget; supported a proposal for a learning technology fee; secured $997,000 in telecommunications rate reductions; reduced mainframe systems total costs by nine percent; obtained sustainable funding for the Data Warehouse and cybersecurity initiatives; saved $14 million in enterprise site licenses; developed a 5-year funding model to build and support a centrally-managed wireless network for Ohio StateÕs Columbus campus; developed a comprehensive funding model for the classroom pool; implemented cost-saving measures for OSUWeb.net; set up a centralized printer server for Student Computer Centers; saved 40 percent of the cost of projector lamps; and obtained a 40 percent discount on Epson repairs and maintenance.

Since 2007

  • Selected QSGI as the new campus computer hardware maintenance vendor. The agreement is less costly and provides improved response times. In addition, QSGI stores complete spare critical system replacements onsite at Ohio State.

  • Introduced an electronic-only billing option for campus telecommunications services for departmental and residential customers, reducing printing and postage costs while improving customer convenience.

  • Saved millions of dollars in hardware costs by working through central purchasing to develop desktop and laptop standards.
